Backwards Bowtie

* Cardigan - Target * Skirt - Lord and Taylor Outlet * Pumps - Steve Madden via DSW *
* Earrings - Forever21 * Ring - Charlotte Russe *

I am in love! I didn't think I would able to say that again anytime soon but this skirt has stolen my heart.  You won't be able to tell me nothing today with this bad boy on!

This skirt was love at first try on, but I thought it might be too dressy for work.  I originally planned on wearing a plain tee in an attempt to dress it down.  It was cute but I didn’t like it.  So I decided to try wearing a cardigan backwards since whatever I wore would need to be tucked in. Ha! It worked; my fave leopard cardi, seen here, did the trick.

Thanks to Ashley, I found this beautiful skirt at the Lord and Taylor outlet in Dolphin Mall. That store is truly an outlet; the discounts ran from 20% to 90%.  My skirt was originally $49.85 with 60% off I paid $19.94 plus tax.   At first I was like Ashley why the heck did you bring me in this store, lol.  But after I dug in and really started looking in the racks I found some great pieces, I even got a pair of pants for $2.90!  If you are in the Miami area check out the Lord and Taylor outlet at Dolphin Mall, you won't be disappointed.  The savings are phenomenal! You just need to have patience unlike me, lol.

Story Telling

* Dress - Ann Taylor Loft * Belt - Thrifted * Pumps - Call it Spring * Bracelets - Forever21 *

So today's dress has a back story, I think all my clothes have a back story.  This dress was purchased last year from Ann Taylor Loft during one of their clearance sales.  I think I ended up paying less than $20.  The dress arrived and I loved it but it shrank a little when I washed it, making the attached slip hang down too far.

*Side note* Always wash your new clothes before wearing them, not only for sanitary reasons but they are lace with chemicals to keep them looking pretty.  As I become more knowledgeable about clean living I will share little tidbits of info I learn with you guys.  I am currently reading "Clean, The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself" so far it has been eye opening.

Okay, back to the story, so I decided "hey I will just cut the slip myself because it's a stretch knit and it won't fray".  Well, I thought I turned the dress inside out, but I didn't.  I ended up cutting the outside skirt! I was livid with myself.  So back to the closet the dress went.  Finally after at least 4 months I took it to my tailor to get fixed, they did a great job.

I am super excited about wearing the dress and I was already thinking of ways to style it.  But it was almost ruined, long story short.  Thanks to someone, who will remain anonymous, I slipped and fell when I walked through an oily spot in my parking garage.  At the time I was carrying my clothes and Starbucks, both went flying! Lol.  I recovered and gave my clothes the once over and didn't see any stains.  I got upstairs and as I am about to hang up my dress, I see a huge oil stain, grrrrrrr.  I swear I sprinted to the washer to try to prevent the stain from setting, I think I got lucky because it came out no problem.

You best believe the guilty party put down lots of salt the next day to make sure I didn't fall again! Lol.  I can laugh now but at the time I was on fire!  I guess that's what I get for trying to hold my purse, my clothes, the Starbucks all while talking on the phone, not paying attention to what I was doing.  I have ruined clothes before but I think I would have been extra salty if this was ruined because I hadn't even worn it yet.

Also, the ProDiva from The Martini Chronicles selected me for her Diva Spotlight Series.  I generally don't get too personal on my blog but I split the beans for her.  Be sure to check it out!

Sexy Sheath

* Blazer - Express/Thrifted * Dress - Calvin Klein/Thrifted * Belt - ? * Pumps - Steve Madden *

Yep I am rocking my dangerously sexy sheath dress! I love this dress; I just wish it were a tad bit longer, I feel weird wearing my knees out at work.  I know, I know I sound like an old lady but since I have all that action going on behind me I try not to show too much skin. Also, I feel like longer length skirts and dress suit me better.

So this outfit was actually inspired by my blogger buddy Ashley, at Kerissa's dinner she was dressed like she was trying to catch a MAN! Ok, let me stop but I did love her outfit from head to toe.  So on Sunday after a long lazy day of watching football and couch surfing I decided to be a copycat.  I put together two items I have never worn together and I was done.  So far I am digging this remixing.

I did do a little bit of shopping this weekend, nothing major but I found some awesome deals that I will share with you guys.

Also, thank you to everyone that filled out my survey, I really appreciate it!

Happy Birthday Kerrisa!

Me and the ladies at Ruth Chris Steakhouse

 I snapped a pic before I headed out, I ended up switching my ring

* Blazer - Forever 21 * Tank - Zara * Belt - Target * Jeans - Levis Curve ID *
* Pumps - Chinese Laundry * Necklace & Bracelets - Forever 21 * Clutch - Forever 21 *
This weekend Ashley and I traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida to celebrate Kerissa's 26th Birthday, her words not mines!  Yesterday I read Ashley's post, "Strangers are just friends waiting to happen", it made me so happy that through blogging I have met so many new and wonderful people.  For me it has always been hard to make new friends so it means a lot that even though Kerissa lives a little over an hour away from Ashley and I we still make the effort to support each other.

I really enjoyed meeting all Kerrisa's family and friends; I can tell that she is really loved.  When we were doing introductions at dinner everyone explained how we all knew Kerrisa.  I told everyone despite having known her for just a little while, it's like we are old girlfriends!  I was happy to share her special day with her and I look forward to our next meet up.  I also had the opportunity to meet another blogger, Roodlyne of Supermomplace.  Make sure you guys go over and check out this ordinary mom doing extraordinary things!

I should have taken a close up of Kerissa's accessories, they were FAB!  And I told Ashley to give me that purse!

Oh and the white jeans are still going strong.

* Faux leather jacket - Elle via Ebay * T Shirt - Ross * Jeans - JcPenney (similar) Booties - Call It Spring *
* Belt - H&M * Ring - Forever 21 * Earrings - Bijuju.com * Bracelets - Gifted *

I am feeling quite sassy today in this outfit! However, before I left home I was second guessing myself.  I haven't seen any other woman wearing colored denim on casual Fridays.  I always feel like I stick out like a sore thumb when I do.  On the other hand maybe I am just the office trend setter, yea...that's it! Anyway, I am going to see Red Tails after class tonight and I won't have time to head home and change, so today's outfit is pulling double duty.

I am wearing a mix of old and new.  I found this faux leather jacket on Ebay, you can't tell from the pics but it is a really pretty eggplant purple.  The collarless design, princess seamed shoulders and peplum design is hot!  Faux leather has come a long way from when it was taboo to wear anything pleather.  I currently own four faux leather jackets and I will probably buy more.  I have been successful finding great deals on Ebay; buying faux leather retail can be expensive.  Of course you can always check your local thrift store too which is bound to have great pricing on leather jackets.

I am also wearing my new shooties (shoe booties) from Call It Spring, I was looking for a cute wedge bootie and these are perfect.  I wish they were a little taller but they will work when I don’t feel like wearing a high heel.

Annnnnnd guess what?! I found out on Tuesday I made the Dean’s List last semester!  I meant to mention it in my last post but forgot.  You guys are always cheering me on when I feel like pulling out my hair, which I really appreciate.  I am so proud of myself; I don’t usually have the opportunity to take 12 credits at once so this was definitely a blessing.

Also, if have a few minutes please take my blog survey here. Thanks!

A Survey and A Smile!

* Denim shirt - Ebay/Oldnavy * Tank - Love Culture * Skirt - NY&Company * Pumps - Call it Spring
* Belt - Express * Bracelets - Forever21 *

I wore this awesome outfit yesterday and only got one good picture, probably because I only took two.  I love this look! I have been shopping my closet and my strategy is:  pair together items I haven't ever worn together or pick a casual item and make it office appropriate.  So far my remixing is going great, as long as I plan my outfits the night before.

I am also wearing my Call it Spring shoes, which are super high and super comfy.  I decided to give them a try after Ashley (A Sassy Woman) did a post about them.  They were only $19.99 at JcPenney after Christmas.  Call it Spring is a subsidiary of Aldo Shoes.  It's funny because I can't wear Aldo shoes, they kill my feet, but I love these. Being the shopaholic I am I ended up purchasing *clears throat* four pairs of shoes from them, lol.  Not that I am trying to enable anyone, but they had an awesome sale which is still going on, an extra 50% off clearance and free shipping on orders over $25.

I have been blogging for about 18 months and I think I do pretty well at gauging what you guys (my readers) like to see on Curves and Confidence.  Blogging is something I love and I only want to become better.  Below is a survey I came up with to get feedback and insight on what you would like to see more of, or suggestions you may have.  Please take a few minutes to fill it out, it would help me out tremendously.  Thanks!

*Survey Closed, Thank you to everyone that participated*

Weekend Wear: Knee High Socks

* Cardigan - Thrifted * Tank - Target * Skirt - Target * Socks - Target * Boots - Nine West *

I have been super lazy this weekend, mostly laying around and watching Sons of Anarchy on my Kindle Fire.  It has been a little chilly this weekend so I bought out my Nine West motorcycle boots.  I like to wear knee high socks with my boots to give the illusion they taller then they actually are.  I have a hard time finding knee high boots that fit my calves, so these are perfect, and I can easily pull them on over my jeans.  Okay, I am off to finish doing nothing, lol.

Let's Get this Started!

* Boat neck shirt - Oldnavy * Pencil skirt - JcPenney * Jacket - Thrifted * Belt - Random *
*Pumps - Steve Madden * Ring - Forever 21 *

Happy New Year!!!! I took a longer than expected break…I was just suppose to chill until my vacation was over which I did.  One the last day of my vacation I got sick! After I was just bragging to my BFF I haven’t been sick in quite some time.  Like my blogger bud Gorgeous Puddin said “you can’t brag about nothing!”  So instead of going back to work I was laid up on my couch drink chai tea and Theraflu last week.  Thank God for a speedy recovery but now it seems like everyone else is getting sick.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is looking forward to a prosperous new year.  I have so much going on this year and so many things I want to do.  Number one on my list is my graduation, which is April 28th. I plan on throwing myself a fantastic party to celebrate.  Like I said in my last post I had so many obstacles in my way but this was meant to be.  Having my marriage fail and going through a horrible divorce might have slowed me down a bit BUT I never gave up. I lost a lot of things when I got divorced but my determination wasn’t one of them.  I am very proud of myself for never giving up on me.  If you can’t cheer yourself on then don’t look for others to do it either.
Number two, shop my closet more.  I did my end of the year closet clean out and donated everything to goodwill.  It was ridiculous how much stuff I bought and never wore.  I know I can do better, of course it was wonderful for the goodwill but I will be watching my shopping habit a little closer this year.  So today’s outfit is a mix of old and new, well only my shoes are new.  I have had this jacket in my closet for more than 6 months and I finally took the time to style it.  I really need to work on remixing my clothes more.

Present the Best You

Hello 2012 and Goodbye 2011…as we all know this is the time of the year that everyone sets their goals and resolutions for the coming year.  I am more of a goal person and continually set them for myself.  As most of you know I am currently attending college and I will graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Management and Supervision this spring! It wasn’t easy and I had a lot of personal obstacles but I didn’t give up and now I am done! This has been a long journey, however I am excited to start applying for new positions and get my name out there.  I have utilized Monster.com in the past for online jobs search and they have just launched a new professional networking app for Facebook.  BeKnown allows you to set up a professional profile directly on Facebook that is completely separate from your personal Facebook page.   Below is a snapshot of my actual BeKnown profile:
It only took me a few minutes to upload my information to my BeKnown Facebook page.  I am already on my way to making new connections and applying for new jobs.  You can also check this helpful video guide.
Besides being an app on Facebook BeKnown is also available for download for iPhone users and Android users.  Professional connections are so important when you are a new graduate trying to find your footing in the workforce.  It can be overwhelming at times however maintaining a professional profile like BeKnown you will be able to track your professional connections, search the monster.com job database, and view job postings by your schools alumni with BeKnown College Pages, all while you are logged into Facebook.
Now once you have established your connections, and applied for jobs it's time to get your interview wardrobe in order.  I am no spring chicken myself, which just means I have been interviewing for quite some time.  Most of my outfit posts on Curves and Confidence are of daily my office attire.  As the title of this post suggests you should be the best you always!
Below are few tips for dressing successfully for an interview:
~ Be sure to pre-plan your outfit prior to the interview, try everything on and make sure you have
   a great fit.
~ Make sure you are comfortable with what you are wearing, especially your shoes! I have been
   surprised a few times with having to having walk long distances in high heels.
~ Regardless of the position always dress professionally.
~ No open toe shoes for the interview, they might be perceived as casual.
~ Keep your jewelry and accessories to a minimum, no cocktail rings, bangles or large earrings.
   You don’t want anything to distract your interviewer from what you are saying.
~ Lastly, hair and nails should be neat and subtle, nothing too crazy.
Now when you do get the job, which I know will happen for those of us that are looking to find something better and more challenging, be sure to observe your new jobs office environment for the first couple of weeks.
Most companies have a written dress code that employees must follow, but the office maybe more lenient then the actual written rules.
If you are just starting out, as a young professional or even trying to build a better work wardrobe, make sure you have the basics in your closet i.e. well fitted blazer, nice dress pants, feminine blouses, pencil skirt, sheath dress, cardigan, wrap dress, dark colored jeans and a few pairs of great shoes.  These items are great foundation pieces that will be interchangeable for your work wardrobe.
Below is a collage of my favorite work outfits:

I hope this was helpful for all you currently seeking jobs or planning to do so this year as a personal goal.  Please let me know if you have any questions

Disclosure:  I was asked to participate in the Monster.com's "Present The Best You" online contest. For my participation I was gifted a business card hold and makeup kit.
