White After Labor Day

These pictures almost didn't make the cut, thank goodness for Photoscape.  I spent most of my vacay couch surfing in my PJs, which was wonderful.  However I did packed a 50lb bag and figured I should throw something on and take some pictures.  My brothers condo complex has really great scenery, so it was a win-win situation.  However we really must work on his photography skills...let him tell it "I know what I am doing, you aren't giving me anything to work with", lol.  I had a great time visiting them as I usually do. Brooklynn is a doll and I can't wait until she gets some size on her so I can go bananas buying super cute clothes for her.  My outfit was nothing special, all repeats from one time or another.

Country Chronicles: Part 2, My Birthday!

I had the best birthday today, very low key!  I was at home with my brother and his family, it was perfect.  Oh and I found out my brothers fiance found my blog! So much for me telling her my secret. Hey Fran! Lol.  My favorite girl helped me blow out my candles.

Country Chronicles: part 1

Welp, I am on vacation in NC and I am loving it! My brother’s fiancé gave birth to my niece Brooklynn last Wednesday and if you follow me on twitter you have seen quite a few pics of her already, lol.  Of course everyone thinks their baby is the mostly beautiful baby ever born but my niece is absolutely gorgeous!  It's going to be so hard to part with her next week.

I don't usually blog while I am on vacation but this is a family visit.  I have absolutely nothing planned except helping with the baby, homework and thrifting.  Most of my outfits will be super casual; I am loving the weather, high of 76 degrees today.  My brother took my pictures today, he is a rookie but he is willing to learn...by the end of the week he is going to be a pro!

Wardrobe Building: The Thrifted Edition

Hey guys I wanted to share a guest post with you I wrote for Minister of Style while she was moving to Florida.  Hope you like it, enjoy!

Wardrobe Building: The Thrifted Edition

To be quite honest I had never ever stepped foot inside of a thrift store until after I started reading fashion blogs.  Not that I had anything against it but it never crossed my mind.  So that was then and this is now, and about 10 to 15 percent of my wardrobe is thrifted.  I have used thrifting as a way to fill in the gaps, so to speak, in my wardrobe.  Usually when I go thrifting I have a mental list of what I want and need.  I am all about looking good at a reasonable price so that’s why I am giving you the trifited edition of wardrobe building…so here goes.  These are my top five pieces that you can easily add to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

1.     Blazers – I can’t even begin to tell you how many blazers I have thrifted.  Finding blazers are always first on my list because they are the easiest.  My first time thrifting I bought four blazers all for $10 or less each.  Never go by the size on the tag, always try on everything. I am always surprised that I can fit things smaller than my normal size. Buying a bunch of blazers retail can get very pricey.  Instead hit your local thrift store and check the designer section, you might be surprised at what you find.

2.    Dresses/Skirts – I naturally gravitate towards dress and skirts so these are always second on my list.  With dresses you have to thinking outside the box and imagine how it would look belted, under a blazer, worn a skirt, etc… The same thing with skirts, can it be taken from a maxi skirt to a midi dress…or from a midi skirt to a belted blouse (got that one from BeautyFash).  If you are a fashionista that sews you can also make minor alterations to suit your needs.

3.    Cardigans/Blouses – I am a cardigan hoarder…I have almost every color and I want more!  For me they go with everything and are great foundation for layering in the winter months.  I have come across some beautiful cashmere cardigans but have yet to find one in my size. Finding a cashmere cardi would be the ultimate score for me! I am still working on building up my collection of blouses.  I recently found some beautiful silk blouses that were all less than $8 each! Blouses are great for office attire and can be easily dressed down with jeans for a night out.

4.    Belts/Scarves – My two favorite accessories.  I wear a belt with almost all my outfits and when it cools off the scarves are coming back out too.  These two items usually are the cheapest things I find.  I have never paid more than $4 for a belt and not more than $5 for a scarf.  Both these items are super easy way to add a little pizzazz to any outfit.

5.    Purses – Last but not least, purses are something I haven’t had much luck with but I am not giving up.  I have seen so many other bloggers with beautiful purses and clutches they have thrifted. I have not found any clutches but I did luck up on a beautiful red leather handbag for $3!  We all know that a fabulous purse can seal the deal on an entire outfit.

That’s my short list of items that you easily thrift and build up your current wardrobe.  I did leave off pants, only because for a curvy girl like me I have a hard enough time getting a great pair of pants retail.  I am not sure I am ready to dive in to thrifting pants just yet.  I really hope this was helpful for anyone that wants to start thrifting or trying to add a few key elements to their wardrobe at a reasonable price.

Denim Double Take

I am usually not one to follow trends, however I am all for colored denim.  After seeing a few other bloggers with the City Streets brand skinny jeans, I ordered cobalt blue and bright pink from JcPenney.  I attempted to get a red pair of skinnies from Oldnavy but that was a fail.  I waited 3 weeks for them and after I finally received them the fit was horrible.  I went back and read the reviews online and it seems that I needed to order them two sizes bigger and one length longer, really Oldnavy?  Okay, so the hunt is still on for an affordable pair of red skinny jeans, any good suggestions?  So far I am loving my pink and blue jeans, I am thinking of ordering green also but I'm not so sure if I can pull that off.

P.S. 10 days until my 31st birthday!

Fashion's Night Out MIAMI

I had a great time with Ashley and the ladies of Thierry Accessories.  Ashley and I headed to Macy's Fashion Night Out events, wine, food and music...good combo for me!  Ashley also got to meet Real Housewife of Miami Adriana De Moura, she was really nice (I had no idea who she was).  We mostly walked around to different stores checking out the Fashion Night Out sales and drinking up everyone's champagne, and eating their food!  We also watched a fashion show at center court, most of the fashions were from Zara, Ann Taylor, Macys and Cache.  I took tons of pictures but I pulled out my favorites,  mostly the color-blocking outfits.  Macy's had the most beautiful brown skin models for the Rachel Roy collection, didn't get a pic =(

All in all I had a fantastic time, but my dang feet were killing me, ugh!

Stylish Instincts

I really wish you guys could see the true color of my skirt, it's orange not red.  I found this gem at the Goodwill for less than $10 and its 100% silk!  I have been adding more color to my wardrobe and have found thrifting to be the easiest and most affordable way to do so.

I was racking my brain for the longest trying to figure out how to wear this skirt, I over think things sometimes.  I was trying to "match" it with a top or blouse.  I was thinking since the skirt is bright I should tone it down with a muted top.  Standing in my closet last night, I figured why does it have to "match" and I grabbed my leopard cardi.  I love how the leopard and orange looks together...I am sure I will get some side eyes today at work, who cares.

Oh and orange is a great color for fall!

P.S. Ashley and I are meeting up tonight for Miami Fashion Night Out! Will you be attending any FNO activities in your city?
