Cute Referee

Yep I am a cute referee today; well at least that's what someone told me.  Of course it was a man that said it, lol.  It was a still a compliment so I said Thank you and kept it moving.

*Side bar* I am watching Toddlers and Tiaras as I type this blog post, oh my gosh! I am disturbed by this show, 3 years olds shaking their lil booty's in two piece swim suits, sigh.  Okay, back to blogging.

You guys already know I love anything with strips!  This dress is one of my faves...I say that about a lot of the clothes I post; I guess that is a good thing, lol.  Last year for my birthday I received a $300 Macy's gift card at work and this is one the items I purchased. I normally don't shop a Macy's but trust me I wasn't complaining; clearly my shopping habit seems to be well known at work, lol.  I have a love hate relationship with the ruffled collar.  Every time I wear this dress I say I am going to cut it off but it adds a lil something so it's probably going to stay.  Plus the ruffle keeps the dress "work appropriate".

That last pic is me giving my neighbor the eye for being on his balcony during my photo shoot! LOL.

Proper Attire

I don't know what this face is about, lol.

This heat is cramping my style; I have been rushing to take my pics because I don't want to be outside too long, ugh!  It was 82 degrees when I woke up this morning, don't you just love summer? Okay, enough complaining.

I am feeling very proper in this outfit today, all I am missing is a tulle slip, some gloves and a pill box hat! I know you guys are tired of seeing this yellow cardigan but I love it.  I should have bought it in every color.  The girls section at Target has the best cardigans! I need to put this skirt in rotation more it's super comfy and it has pockets!

Oh and tonight is last day of my summer classes, which means I will be celebrating with Moscato later on! Yaay me, one more semester to go!

From the mail bag: Something for the Fellas

I love it when other bloggers share questions they get from their readers.  So I decided I would do the same starting with a little something for the fellas.  I was sent the following message:

My birthday was several months ago and I have noticed a change in my fashion sense. I don't know if it has to do with age or if I want to change up my style a little.  Since you’re a fashion expert how can I get my grown man on without going overboard.  And what do like to see guys wear?

First let me say thank you for the compliment but I am far from an expert, lol.  I just know what works for me.  I am pretty simple when it comes to men’s fashion.  I don't care for over the top things that draw too much attention.  I always feel like less is more.  For me I think you should always look your best no matter what.  I always cringe when I see guys wearing basketball shorts and slides when I'm out.
As far as getting your grown man on I have selected the following items below.  I pretty much see these as the basics for any male wardrobe.  These should get you started in the right direction.

The white button down is classic, it goes with everything...jeans, khaki even with a pair of cargo shorts.

I like this shirt because it is an update version of a classic look.  I think the seams add a little something extra.

Normally I wouldn't suggest wearing a plain t-shirt but v-necks are very popular among the fellas.  A new crispy paired with jeans is another classic look.  As long as you stay away from those deeeeep v-necks you should be good, lol.

Ralph Lauren polo shirts are the best, they have so many options, and the cotton they use is soooooo soft! This would work with jeans, shorts, khakis and even under a blazer.

This sweater would have the tendency to make a young man look older if not worn correctly.  The picture I selected is perfect.  He has the plaid shirt underneath, the sleeves are pushed up and the shirt is cuffed.  Perfect! It's all in how you style it; this would work with a v-neck tee shirt as well.

Every man should have a nice fitted/tailored blazer; you should have one on standby just in case the occasion calls for it.

Most guys think of khaki's as being boring or for old men, wrong! If you style them correctly they can look great.  Crisp button down; un-tucked with the sleeves cuffed or half zip sweater and v neck tee. Of course these would also be great for an office environment as well.

Can't go wrong with dark denim, it goes with everything.  These are a relaxed straight which is a perfect option if you hate skinny jeans and don't care for the baggy look.

Definitely need a nice casual shoe and I have noticed that boat shoes are popping up everywhere.  I like this particular pair because they have an updated look simple look.

Classic white sneaker.  I have a pair of these myself!

G Shock's are very popular and they come in so many different versions and colors.  This is a great casual watch.

For more dressy occasions this two-toned Bulova watch is perfect.

Should I Splurge?

Bloggers Do It Better

I am in a fantastic mood! I think the colorfulness of my skirt is the reason; it just put a smile on my face as soon as I put it on this morning.  Don't you just love when something as simple as a piece of clothing can make you smile?

Okay on to the back story of this skirt, who doesn't love a good story! This is another fabulous piece from Forever 31; yep I renamed the store yesterday.  I fell in love with a dress I saw Melanie wearing on an episode of "The Game" back in 2007, yep that long ago.  This dress was close enough to satisfy me, just one problem it was a "short maxi".  Meaning it only came to my ankles, none the less it still came home with me.  I wore it a few times but the halter area on the dress was a little more revealing than I cared for so she sat dormant until this week when I saw this pic.  Isn't that skirt beautiful! Well for $180 is should be, unfortunately the bargainista in me is torn on if I should splurge on it.

So I used Ciara's skirt as my inspiration for today's Bloggers Do It Better challenge.  I cut off the halter and thankful there was elastic under the bust-line of the dress so that's all I had to do.  I have brand new maxi skirt that I love.

So, I want you to tell about a purchase you agonized over, did you look for a substitute, did you break down and buy the item or did you just say forget it all together? Let me add I found the skirt at Neiman Marcus Last Call online for $99 and they are having a 30% off sale site wide, and guess what?  Yep, you guess it, the skirt was sold out!

Back to Basics

Back on the balcony, I know you guys missed the views, lol.

I have been all over the place this week and haven't really planned out my outfits the night before work like I usually do.  You know what that means, me standing in my closet waiting for something to jump out at me in the morning.  This dress was today's winner, and it is completely inappropriate for work, at least I think so.  Don't get me wrong I am giving the business in this dress, which I love! However, for work this could be questionable depending on your work environment. I figured I should cover my arms since I am showing a little more leg than I normally do.  It's safe to say I will be feeling self-conscious all day.  This is what I get for being 30 and still shopping at a Juniors store, gotta love Forever 21!

Mellow Yellow

I finally found the perfect white skinny jeans! I must say that these jeans are perfect for the ladies with some junk in the trunk!  About two weeks ago I saw an ad for Annual Sale 30% off of sale items and free shipping.  I figured what the hell let me see what I can find.  I usually do not buy jeans online just because I have so many problems with pants fitting me properly.  I have seen several advertisements for the Levi's Curve ID jeans but never really was interested in trying them.  So after taking the Curve ID test online I determined I was the Bold Curve or the Supreme Curve.  I went with the Bold Curve for women that have problems with gaping.  The Bold Curve has a higher back rise and hugs waist without gaping or pulling.

So I ended up getting 30% off, free shipping and an additional 15% with a coupon code.  I paid less than $50 for both pairs of jeans.  Levi's also has free return shipping so I figure if I hated them I wouldn't lose much.  When I got them I was so excited I tried these babies on at work and loved them!

I went with a size 14 but probably could have got my normal size 12, I figured I need to size up since they were slim fit.  Regardless I still love them, I can comfortably wear these to work and not worry about them looking too tight. I hate to go on and on about these jeans but it's so hard for me to find a perfect fit.  Hopefully this review will help someone else with my body type.  So let me break it down:

  • I ordered the Classic Bold Curve Slim Jeans in white and dark indigo.
  • There is no gaping, and the jeans fit comfortably on my waist not belt needed.
  • The fit is great through the hips and thighs, they do not make me feel like I am being squeezed.
  • I am 5'5" and I bought the regular length which I can wear flats with and not worry about them dragging.
  • When I washed the indigo they did not shrink that much, I was able to pull them on easily.  They did stretch out a little bit which is why I said I could have sized down but it also depends on the look you are going for.
  • The Bold Curve comes in low rise, mid rise and at waist.  Low rise is hit or miss with me so I decided to pass.
  • I can sit down comfortably and I don't have plumbers crack, lol.
  • The white is true white and looks fabulous!

Okay, that's it! I hope this review helps some of my other curvy ladies.  I can mark these off my wish list.  Now I need to work on colored skinny jeans.  I think PZI Jeans has the perfect pair but my size is always out of stock!

My fear of wearing white skinny jeans are gone, I just needed to find the right pair!

Make sure you hit up Everybody Everywear to see how the other ladies rock their yellow.

My Blog Anniversary

I am so happy, humbled, excited, everything! I can't believe that I have made it an entire year already.  I really stepped out of comfort zone by starting this blog, I am the shy introverted chick that doesn't really talk much.  However, I had reached a turning point in my life being newly divorced and wanting to step out my comfort zone.  Not going into too much detail, but going through a divorce has been the hardest thing that I have ever had to do, ever, ever, ever in my life! So here I am a year later, feeling better than ever moving on and making progress...taking it one day at a time.

It sometimes takes a life changing event that causes you to hit bottom start over and realize your personal worth.  I know that I am an intelligent, smart, and savvy woman and no one will ever take that from me nor will I allow anyone to make me doubt that again. I love the woman that I have become. Sharing my sense of style and connecting with new and fabulous people has become an important part of my life.

With all that being said Curves and Confidence isn't going anywhere for a long time!  I sincerely want to thank everyone the reads and comments and even those that don't comment.  It means a lot to me that you take the time to share my little piece of the world.  If you only know how much blogging has helped me transform myself.

So to celebrate my first year, I got some goodies to giveaway ...*my favorite things*. The giveaways will start tomorrow and run through next week.
