Friend Friday: Blogger Mechanics (behind the scenes)

1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video camera, tripod, etc...)
I am currently using a Sony Cyber-Shot W230 point and shoot, I use the self-timer to take my pics. I also use a tripod that is borrowed from my co-worker.

2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system, photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..)
I use blogger for hosting but I am thinking about migrating over to Wordpress...we'll see how that goes. I currently don't use online photo storage...I probably should huh? lol. When I first started blogging I would use my camera to edit photo's. Let's just say that didn't really go to well. I found out about Photoscape, a free photo editing software and I have been using it successfully ever since. I recently found out about Picnik which is free as well. Also, I just added Disqus for commenting which I love!

3. What is your process for taking pictures?
All I can do is shake my head at this question. My process has evolved so much since I started blogging back in July 2010. I started out taking pics in my living room but the lighting was way off...to me anyway. I decided to start taking my photos on my balcony, which is perfect! I keep my tripod setup so I don't have to re-adjust it daily. Having a tripod setup in my living room is definitely makes for interesting conversation when visitors come over, lol.

4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily?
I take my pics on my balcony, same spot everyday unless the weather is bad. I really don't feel comfortable pulling out my tripod and camera for an impromptu photo shoot in random places. I did recently find a new location that I could use from time to time without any on lookers.

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying?
I have had my eye on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i 15.1 Megapixel DSLR. I have also heard good things about the Sony NEX-3, 14.2 Megapixel. The DSLR would be my first choice, mind as well since I am splurging, right?

Lemon-Lime Remix

After it being gloomy the past couple days I decided to brighten up my outfit a bit. I have worn this combination of colors before here and here. I guess I have a thing for green and yellow.

Once again I am wearing an item from Target...I try my hardest to stay away from the clothing section when I go in there but it doesn't work. These pants were on clearance and since I already have the matching skirt I figure what the hey, go ahead and buy them.

I am so glad I did...I am in love! I usually hate wearing pants or even shopping for pants. I always have the hardest time find the perfect fit for my curves. The waist fits perfectly, no gapping, the hips are not too tight, and the rise is not too low. I am happy to report another successful purchase from Target!

Thank You!

Despite today's gloomy weather in Miami, I am feeling happy and joyful. I would like to say thank you to Gorgeous Puddin for my Stylish and Versatile blog award, thanks lady. I will dedicate a separate post for the award later.

Also, thank you to Velma of Fashion Rehab for the mention in her Blog Anniversary Post, congrats on your 1st year!

Last but not definitely not least, thank you to all my followers and all the wonderful comments you guys leave me. Every comment always bring a smile to my face no matter what, you guys are the bestest (yes I meant to use bestest, lol)

Ok, so today I am participating in Every Body Every Wear, Breton Strips day, not really sure if my stripes qualify as Breton Strips but I think I am close.

Every Body Every Wear is the brainchild of Liz of 26 and Counting and Linda of The Auspicious Life so bloggers all over can showcase how we can all wear the same thing, on the same day, but differently, cool huh.

Friend Friday: Certified Authentic

Mickey Tee - Ross / Tank - Oldnavy /Jeggings - Macy's / Flats - Oldnavy/Earrings - Oldnavy / Bracelets - Gifted

1. Most readers and fellow fashion bloggers value authenticity in the
blogs they read. How would you describe blog/blogger authenticity?
Its when I feel like I could possible be this persons friend in real life. There are a few bloggers I feel like are super cool and I would probably have a blast if we ever had the opportunity to meet.

2. When it comes to your blog how to you infuse it with that true/authentic feeling?
In the beginning I was kind apprehensive about putting myself out there, like the new kid at school. Eventually I came across other bloggers that were friendly and inviting, that made me relax alot. I try to keep it simple and easy. For me when too much is going on besides the main objective of the blog I lose interest.

3. Have you stopped following a blog in the last three months? What made you lose interest?
I have never unfollowed someone, I just leave them on my Google Reader. However, I will stop checking for their updates. I have lost interest in blogs that do not update regularly, if they have too many advertisements, if they seems to have a negative feeling about them and if I do not relate to them anymore.

4. We can't communicate effectively on our blogs, something we don't live in real life... what are some ways you try to live an authentic life?
I am very straight forward, I never sugar coat anything. That sometimes may come across as harsh to others. That of course is not my intentions but I like for people to know exactly what I am feeling so there aren't any misunderstands. To me life is alot simpler that way. I think people hold back too much and in the end that's not good for anyone.

5. Give a shout-out... Which bloggers do you think are truly genuine and why?

26 and counting - Liz is cute and funny. She always wears the best color combination and scarves =)

Closet Confection - I just found Kendra's blog, but I love it already. I like that her style is very versatile and she has a great personality to match it.

Fashion du Jour - Leslie is another sweetheart, first of all her style is great. But secondly, she is a real inspiration and always has a positive outlook about everything.

Kandi Style - Kandi is super sweet. I have never meet her but she seems like the person you could always count on to cheer you up if you needed it =)

Gourgeous Puddin - I love her Thursday Thoughts! I love when people actually have an opinion about something and they aren't afraid to voice it. Not matter what it is.

Right to Bear Arms

Let me just start by saying I love, love, love my outfit today! I been bumming it for the past couple days, only wearing slacks and tops....so boring. I figured I need to wear something spectacular today to make me feel spectacular.

I have also been feeling like I have absolutely nothing to wear...which is most CERTAINLY not true. So I figured I need to put on my thinking cap and get to work. I pulled out this skirt which I haven't worn in at least 2 years...a shame I know. After a few trial runs with different belts, blazers, cardigans, etc....I came up with this and I love it.

This outfit is perfect for today's weather, 82 degrees! Too bad I had to put on the cardigan for work, I love showing off my shoulders and arms =)

No Sweat

Let me just start by saying I hate hoodies and sweats. If you are not working out then what's the point of wearing them. As of lately I have noticed that they have taken on another form...for example, this and this. I am loving the dressed up casual look you can achieve if paired with heels and cute top. It's always cool when something old is made new in a different way.

That bring me to today's outfit. I'm wearing a non-hoodie if you can call it that, lol. I love this jacket because its comfy and casual without having the overly athletic look. The funnel collar and drawstring are really what sold me =)

Friend Friday: How do you get dressed?

1. How do you determine what you will wear that day? I usually choose my outfits according to my mood and where I am going, which is usually work. Sometimes I plan them around a particular piece I want to wear. My hairstyle can also determine what I will wear as well, but that's usually for going out or vacations.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month,
weekend? I change my mind too much and shop too much to pre-plan pass two days. You ladies know how it is when you buy something new, lol. I usually try to have a general idea of what I want to wear the night before work. On the weekends I just keep it simple and casual. Kudos to anyone that can plan out their outfits that far in advance. I also think this is why I haven't participated in any 30 day remix challenges yet either. I can't commit! Lol.

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already
worn so you don't repeat?
I would have to say my
blog is really the best tool for tracking outfits. I do have my favorite items that I like to wear over and over. I am working on that now, I tend to always grab my favorite instead of working my way through all my clothes. I am also very guilty of buy something new instead of trying to put together an outfit, smh.

4. How do you discover new combination's of items in your closet? (Trial try-ons? Hanging items together?) Most of my remixes happen by chance or through me trying on different things. I also solicit help from my friends when I get stuck or draw a complete blank. I am trying to get better at putting all my clothes in rotation and remixing everything.

5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time? Lol, this is funny to me because I don't think there is anything I can do to cut down on my time. I do need to get better at keeping all my clothes in my closet instead of on the floor on on my bed but that's probably another topic. I could probably get better at selecting my outfits in the early evening instead of right before bed.

I Take Request

It's Monday, yaay! Anyone else excited? Ok, I'm not that excited but I do have a three day weekend to look forward too. I'm hoping to travel out of town but looks like the snow might keep me in South FL.

Today's outfit is bought to you by the letter "G"

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I get outfit ideas ideas from my friends. I'll randomly ask, "what should I wear tomorrow?", and in most cases I usually comply if my wardrobe allows me to. So today's outfit was inspired by my friend G, he gave me three words....red, black and simple. I think I pretty much have that covered. Nothing like a sexy secretary look to get your Monday started!

Does anyone else solicit help from others when you are out of ideas?

Friend Friday: Not measuring up

1. Have you ever looked at someone's blog and thought yours will never measure up?
Yes, especially when I first started blogging. I had been a blog lurker for years. I always thought to myself "I can do this too", but I never put forth the effort. When I finally decided to take the plunge I felt like a little fish in a big pond! I didn't know what I was doing. Looking at the more popular blogs made me feel like I would never gain any momentum. However when you are passionate and genuine about something others will take notice. I was worried about not having fancy pics, fantastic backgrounds and snazzy layouts. I had to realize I will do the best with what I have and that's all that matters.

2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?
Yes, but I wouldn't define it pressure more like unwritten rules for success. I kinda used what I saw on other blogs a guide and I also used my experiences as a reader. A couple of things I picked up on quickly were: update frequently, read other blogs and leave comments, network and socialize with other bloggers, and stay true to yourself. I did (and do) feel the pressure of remaining interesting and making sure each outfit I post is on point.

3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?
I am actually into all those things however for the most part I try to keep my blog about all things related to fashion or beauty. I may include a post here and there about something amazing that I want to share with my followers but I don't want to be all over the place. However, people change and in the future I might decide to include other aspects of my life. I do think its cool when you get to see different facets from bloggers and learn new things about them. I don't think its needed to incorporate several things to be successful, but if you see that it will be received well then I say go for it.

4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?
I would have to say that by staying true to myself I am creating my voice. It is very easy to get caught up if you try to keep up with with other bloggers. I try to keep my blog upbeat and jovial, I like positivity and like to surround myself with it.

5. Toot your own horn... what's one thing you do that is unique to you
and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?
Hmmmm...I don't think there is one thing that I do that is giving me an edge or anything special or unique. I'm just lil ole' me =)

Somber

I am not my usual jovial self today. I received some tragic life changing news about one of my co-workers. Working for a small company, less then 10 people, you become really close so we are more like family. I have been praying for his family and asking God to watch over them during these trying times. It's just hard to see someone everyday and then just like that they can be gone from your life forever. I'm moving in slow motion today and my heart is heavy. I hope everyone has a safe and blessed weekend.

Just Getting Started

I'm glad to be back! I had a very nice Christmas/New Years vacation visiting my family in NC. It was cold, cold, cold and it snowed the second day I was home. I wasn't too thrilled about it but I embraced it and enjoyed it while it lasted. Thank goodness NC only got the tail-end the blizzard. I relaxed the entire time played with my niece, eat too much, drank too much...and I didn't take one single picture, which I still can't believe. I loved being home, but I missed my sunshine!

While I was in NC I had the opportunity to go to H&M! The store didn't really have much to choose from considering it was right after Christmas. That didn't stop me from loading up my arms with stuff anyway. This stripped top being one of them, you guys know how much I love strips! Miami really needs to get an H&M, we are so deprived =(

My sister-in-law also told me about this great accessories boutique called Bijuju, you can check out their online store here. I was like a kid in a candy store, but I restrained myself and didn't go too crazy. The customer service was outstanding and the staff was so friendly. They also had a great sale buy two, get one free which was perfect or at least I thought so. A girl can never have too many baubles...
