I try my best to take my pics in the morning before I leave for work. Well this morning I was kinda running behind and when I stepped outside on my balcony it was hot as blazes! I have to make it a point to be out there before 7:30am so I can get good lighting and not too much sun (like today).

Today's title post has a lot to do with being motivated to continuously blog. I never realized how much blogging would affect my life. I am constantly thinking of new things to do and write about. My camera is always with me, just in case I see something interesting. I have always considered myself to have great style and dress nice but now I make sure my outfits are "blog worthy". I even go as far as to try on my entire outfit the night before to make sure its gonna work for the next day. I make sure that I wake up early enough to take my outfit pics. By the way I'm not a morning person at all, so this is hard for me. Lastly, I am way more body conscious...that might sound vain but if I think I look "fat" in something it's never gonna make it on this blog.

This may seem like a lot of additional "work" but I love blogging and the interaction between other bloggers. That's my motivation, what's yours?

5 under $50 - Holiday Dresses

1. Victoria Secrets - One shoulder dress, available in Black, Red, and Multi-color purple. This dress has a classic silhouette with the right amount of sexy.

2. ASOS.com - Velvet one shoulder dress by Vero Moda. Featuring a knot detail to the shoulder, a cap sleeve and a fitted waist. Available in Black and Deep turquoise. I love the fact that this dress is velvet and the jewel tone color is beautiful.

3. Forever 21 - Architectural pleats add interest to a sleek strapless dress. Available in Berry. I actually tried this dress on and loved it. I was definitely drawn to pleating on the front of the dress. The fit was amazing and the price is great.

4. Sears.com - A wide beaded circle neck is embellished with sparkly beads and faux-gemstones to bring a touch of bling to this stunning dress. As the description states the beaded neck line has just the right amount of sparkle. This dress would be perfect for a formal New Years Eve celebration.

5. Macy's - Sophisticated with a hint of sexy, this shimmery sheath dress comes with a fun built-in necklace for a pre-accessorized look. This is the perfect look for the office Christmas party or a family gathering.

My two favorite prints...strips and leopard. This idea was inspired by Kandis from Kandi-STYLE's Point of View. I loved the way she mixed the two patterns and it really looked great.

I was all geeked about Black Friday last week but my feelings are starting to waver. To be honest there isn't really anything that I absolutely have to get. I do know that I will be at the Goodwill on Friday morning, all items will be 50% off, I plan to make my rounds.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving and I can't wait to here about all the great deals everyone found.

Happily Thankful

Yesterday I was feeling lonely and kinda sad...but I turned that around last night before I went to bed. Despite feeling down I gave thanks to God for all the wonderful things I have in my life. Yesterday may have been a down moment for me but overall I am truly happy and blessed. I woke up today feeling wonderful and excited about starting my day. I'm happily thankful for my family, my friends, and my strength...oh and my furbaby!

I went shopping this weekend and was finally able to get my hands on some camel pants, and I love them. Let me just say I don't like pleats at all. I always thought they were for old ladies, but since these pants are high-waisted it's working for me. They feel great and the color is awesome. I choose to keep my top simple as not to take away from the details of the pants. Now all I need is a camel colored sheath dress and I'll be set.

The pre-black friday madness is setting in...the 3 major malls in my area will all open at 12am!, as well as one the larger electronics stores. This is gonna be crazy...I'm re-thinking my shopping plans now. I may just wait for Cyber-Monday because I really hate crowds.

Friend Friday: Blogger Copying

1. What are the 'unwritten rules' about copying content that we bloggers should all abide by?

***Don't pass off others work as your own***
***Correctly cite the source and link back to them as necessary***
***It wouldn't hurt to drop them an email as well if you want to be extra courteous***
2. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. But when is a post imitation and when is it copying?
My outfit post yesterday dealt with imitation being the highest form of flatter. Blogging shouldn't be about constant imitation. I blog because I want others to see my individual style and creativity. It should be about what you have to offer not what you saw other blogger's doing and then copying it. Everyone works hard to make their blog different and stand out so it would kinda suck to see a copy-cat "jacking your swag", lol.
Of course when something is trend you are going to see it constantly. I will admit to seeing a blogger wear something and say "I have to have that!" Of course if I did decide to copy their exact outfit and post it I would link back to them saying I was inspired by their style.

3. Taking another blogger's idea (perhaps for an outfit, or DIY tutorial) is pretty common in the blogging world. Do you think it is necessary to credit the original source?

Hmmm...it depends if they were the originator of the idea..i.e. I just saw a post that "L" from Avid Accents did on a fab DIY turtleneck embellishment that I know I am going to try and re-create. I absolutely would give her full credit for the idea and link back to her original post. As far as I know this is her own design that she shared with everyone else. It would only be proper for me to give her the credit she is due.

4. How have you improved your blog by comparing it to other blogs? Have you made changes due to something you have seen others doing?
Of course, being a new blogger I tried to find my footing and looked to older more mature blogs for direction. I figured out quickly that I needed to have high quality pictures, not too many pictures of the same outfit, keep my blog design simple but easy to navigate...these are all things I learned from browsing some of my favorite blogs. I know as I veiw more blogs I will come across other ideas I can use to improve my blog. As I network I'm sure I will learn more as well.

5. Have you ever had one of your posts copied by another blogger or publication? How did you handle the situation?
As far as I know this has not happened to me. I hope it doesn't, especially if it was used in a negative manner. If I was made aware of the situation I would email them and ask them to correctly cite the information or remove it. In a situation like this you can't control another person's actions all you can do is be an adult about it and remember situations like this come with the territory good or bad its apart of the blogging world.

Just call me Mrs. O....

(Vogue cover via HuffingtonPost)

I LOVE Michelle Obama! She is undeniably a style icon for me, Mrs. Obama knows exactly what works for her and is on point every time. I had an opportunity to attend an Obama rally back in 2008 with front row access (thanks to my job). I think I was more excited to see Mrs. Obama then I was to see our future President! I can't speak enough about this lady...her grace and poise is magnificent, even when she dresses down she looks great. I love how regardless of what anyone says about of her style/wardrobe she still does her thing.

Orignially I wanted a dupe of her infamous purple dress that she wore to a rally in St. Paul Minnesota, but purple really isn't my color. So when I saw this dress at JcPenney I figured it was close enough to suit me and I snatched it up. Then the March 2009 Vogue cover came out with our First Lady wearing a magenta dress! I know I sound overly excited but my dress is dang good match. So it will now and forever be known as my Michelle Obama dress. I completed my look by adding a leopard belt, which seems to be my new favorite print.

My favorite...

There are not enough hours in the day to do all the stuff I have to do and then all the stuff I like to do! Anywho...going to school Mon - Thurs is killing me, I don't have time for anything else, but its for a greater purpose. Okay that was my rant for today. The weather is still warm here in Miami so I still am not able to pile on any layers yet. I miss having the change of season sometimes. However, I can't do those cold NYC winters anymore....I'm not conditioned for it, Miami has spoiled me.

I love this scarf, I don't know why but I always grab it when I feel like wearing a scarf. It only cost me $5 at Dots, but I have gotten so much use from it. What's your favorite low cost accessory you get the most use from?

I'm a Veteran...

(Corfu, Greece. I was a newlywed in this pic! )

Yep, I was in the Navy from 1999-2003. I was a Petty Officer 3rd Class and I enjoyed almost every day I was in the Military. I got the opportunity to live in Italy the entire time I served, which was an experience with in its self. I was able to travel to some of the most beautiful cities on this Earth...my favorites are Paris, France...Rome, Italy....Dubai, UAE....Toulon, France...Corfu, Greece...Malta, Spain...Haifa, Israel and Barcelona, Spain...oh and Marmaris, Turkey! I met the love of my life in the Navy...only to lose him but that's another post, lol.
Besides it being Veteran's Day yesterday it was my Besties 25th birthday. Happy Birthday Drizzy! We went to the Miami International Car Show and also head to South Beach for some drinks. We ended up at Wet Willies, I had a triple play. That sucker had me tipsy! lol. I hope everyone else enjoyed their day off.

I changed my hair! I will probably rock this style through the new year.

Anyone that reads my blog knows I love pencil skirts, especially the Merona brand from Target. They fit me so perfect! Another obsession is ruffles, I have so many ruffled shirts, smh. *I changed my belt after I took the first two pics* I have to admit that when I like something I will buy it over and over again. Speaking of buying...I have started my Black Friday wish list:

Knee high boots (leather preferably)
Winter Coat (needed for NC this Christmas)
New Investment Bag (no specific brand in mind)
Wedge Booties
Canon DSLR Camera
Smaller Laptop

What's on your list? And are you planning to shop at specific stores?

Semi-Casual Friday

It's cold in Miami! Well, not that cold...it's in the 60's. So it's not cold enough for me to break out the tights and boots yet. It's suppose to go down to the 50's tonight so maybe I can bring them out.
I feel like I am half dressed up in this outfit. I decided to mix dressy with casual today. I love this tweed look jacket I got from H&M when I was in NYC. I didn't wear any accessories because I didn't want to take away from the sparkle the had around the neckline.

Election Day 2010

I voted! I had to get up at dark-thirty to make sure I voted before I went to work today. I am not happy with the results, however I did utilize my opportunity to voice my choice. Did you vote today? I am participating in Fashion for the Economically Challenged "I Voted Challenge". I can't wait to all those fashionable election day outfits.
